More about me
Dr. Kimberly Ho Misiaszek
Dr. Kimberly Ho Misiaszek obtained her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of
Miami in Coral Gables, FL in 2019.
Dr. Kim has worked in a variety of treatment settings including residential and inpatient psychiatric
facilities, child and adolescent outpatient clinics, a domestic violence shelter, a hospital emergency
department and alongside the New Haven Police Department doing joint responses to community
violence.
Dr. Kim completed her postdoctoral and predoctoral fellowship at the Yale University School of
Medicine’s Yale Child Study Center that allowed her to gain experience in general clinical child and
adolescent psychology with a specialty focus in child and family traumatic stress. Her Master’s in
Mental Health & Well-Being from New York University also focused on children exposed to violence
in both a research and clinical capacity.
Dr. Kim’s clinical conceptualizations and interests are rooted in psychodynamic and cognitive-
behavioral perspectives. In her work with children and adolescents, her focus is on strengthening the
family unit and improving parent-child interactions and relationships. Dr. Kim also integrates other
modalities and theories based upon client needs such as acceptance and commitment therapy
(ACT), and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT). A strengths-based approach and cultural humility
are also key factors in her work with clients.
Dr. Kim’s broad training and experiences have allowed her to work with a variety of presenting
concerns, including depression, anxiety, grief/loss, trauma/PTSD, self-esteem, ADHD, adjustment
issues, and parent-child conflict. She believes that by providing a warm, compassionate, and trusting
relationship, where clients feel seen and understood without judgment, clients can feel safe to
explore and find solutions to obstacles that limit their potential, learn more adaptive ways of relating
to themselves and others, gain skills using science-tested tools where useful, and find their way to a
more balanced and peaceful sense of self and family life.
Dr. Kim also provides comprehensive psychological assessments for concerns such as ADHD,
learning disorders, giftedness and emotional/behavioral concerns. She also provides evaluations for
Roman Catholics interested in seminary and vocational ministry and is thrilled to provide this service
to Deeper Roots Psychological Services clients.
Dr. Kim also is engaged in teaching and research as she has served as a full-time and adjunct
professor at the University of Miami and engages in research on risk and resilience in youth and
immigrants.
On a more personal note, Dr. Kim is married with two small children, and lives in Virginia. When she
is not working, Dr. Kim enjoys going on walks, reading, staying active in her Catholic faith and
spending time with family.
